Eclipse is the third novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It continues the story of Bella Swan 18-year-old and her vampire love, Edward Cullen. Eclipse is preceded by New Moon and followed by Breaking Dawn. This book was published August 7, 2007 with an initial circulation of one million copies, and sold over 150,000 copies in the first 24 hours.
Eclipse is the fourth best-selling book of 2008, only behind Twilight, New Moon and Breaking Dawn, and was also ranked # 1 on the Publishers Weekly list of "Books Hardcover Backlist successful children" in 2008 with more than 4 5 million copies sold.
Plot summary
The story begins with the revelation of Seattle, Washington is facing a series of murders, which Edward suspects is caused by a new vampire that is unable to control his thirst for human blood. As Edward and Bella apply to colleges, "says Bella to Edward her desire to see his friend, Jacob Black, a werewolf. While fears for his safety Edward, Bella insists that neither Jacob nor his pack of wolves would never hurt her, and she begins to visit him from time to time. Meanwhile, Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire who hunt Bella for revenge, has returned to Forks. A few days later, Edward proposes to Bella and, despite hosting the aversion to marriage, she accepts.

As everyone prepares for the battle Edward, Bella and Jacob in the camp mountains, hidden during the battle where they were later joined by Seth Clearwater, a young member of Wolf Pack, to await the end of the struggle.
In the morning, Jacob was angry when he overhears a conversation between Edward and Bella discussing their engagement and threatens to join the fight and get killed. To stop it, Bella kisses Jacob and realizes she is in love with him too. During the battle, Victoria Edward Bella perfume tracks instead of hiding the forest, and Edward is forced to fight. Edward manages to decapitate Victoria and her army of vampires is destroyed. Subsequently, Bella says to Jacob that although she loves, her love for Edward is greater. After receiving a wedding invitation from Edward, Jacob fled to his wolf form to escape her grief by the decision of Bella becoming a vampire.
Marketing campaigns
A few months before the release of Eclipse, Meyer has held an "Eclipse Prom" event at Arizona State University with the help of a local bookstore and the ASU English department. Tickets were sold in seven hours, causing Meyer held a second prom on the same day for which tickets sold in four hours. At the event, Meyer read the first chapter of Eclipse, which was published in the special edition of the New Moon same day. In addition, Meyer began a 15-city tour promoting the book.
